Government Hill Elementary’s Spanish Two Way Dual Language Immersion Program is over 25 years strong. Our Spanish Immersion students are encouraged to continue the program at Romig Middle and West High Schools. This is a program of choice for both English and Spanish speaking families who want their children to have the advantage of becoming proficient in both languages by the time they complete the kindergarten through 12th grade sequence. In our two way dual language immersion program, native English speakers and native Spanish speakers learn together and from one another. Beginning in kindergarten, students spend half of the day immersed in a total Spanish language experience. Students acquire Spanish in everyday classroom situations developing listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. In the immersion model, core content, such as science and social studies, is delivered in Spanish.
