Dear Prospective BCA Student,
Thank you for your interest in Service High’s Biomedical Career Academy program! Attached you will find our current application as well as more detailed information about our academy. Please take some time to read these attachments closely.
BCA is an academy within Service High School that includes participation in a BCA Advisory. The goal is to extend student learning outside the classroom in the area of the medical sciences and healthcare. Students are required to spend 36 hours outside of school participating in HOSA (a national healthcare student organization- more info to follow), job shadowing, service learning, attending presentations, etc. Hours can be obtained in many ways. Though it may seem daunting at first, the 36 hours goes by quickly for many BCA students. You will be assigned a BCA Advisory teacher to help you along with your specific goals.
It is required that BCA students take 4 years of science classes. We offer an exciting array of hands-on STEM-based classes through Project Lead the Way (PLTW). Class content can be viewed at http://www.pltw.org/our-programs/high-school-biomedical-sciences-program.
