SWS opened in 1977 as an alternative program for highly motivated students. Many of our core classes are honors level classes and our academic standards are high. SWS teachers incorporate the educational methodology of Socratic seminar, with an emphasis on close analysis and discussion. Moreover, a key component to our program is community service. Students organize, lead, participate in and contribute to the various extra-curricular and community service opportunities SWS sponsors. Our students devote hours of their time to various events, as well as giving back to the Anchorage community.
