Mount Spurr Elementary School serves students in grades K-6 who live on Joint Base Elmendorf Richarson. In addition to classroom teachers, we have teachers who specialize in music, library, art and physical education. Sixth grade students can take band or orchestra.
Students who meet eligibility requirements may receive services in occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech/language, special education and gifted classes. A bilingual tutor provides instructional support for eligible students. We also have a full-time school nurse.
Mount Spurr's curriculum includes, reading, writing, math, social studies, science, art, music, library, computer literacy, health, safety and physical education. Our math curriculum is the Go Math! program. Our comprehensive literacy program was developed by Houghton Mifflin. We have a Macintosh computer lab for student use. Our instructinal decisions are driven by the student performance standards developed by the Anchorage School District.
