Welcome to College Gate Yup'ik Immersion Program's lottery application. On this page you will find instructions to get you started.
Before beginning the application, we ask that you read the program Requirements & Policies.
The Anchorage School District’s Yup’ik Language Partial Immersion Program is a “school-within-a-school” program at College Gate Elementary School. Beginning with kindergarten only in the fall of 2018, a grade will be added each year through elementary school. The program will eventually have a continuation strand into middle and high schools as we have with our other immersion programs.
This is a program of choice for parents who would like their children to have the advantage of becoming proficient in two languages (English and Yup’ik) by the time they complete the kindergarten through 12th grade sequence of the language immersion program. Beginning in kindergarten, students have a “team” of two teachers, an English-speaking teacher and a native-speaking Yup’ik teacher. Students are “immersed” for one-half of their school day in a total Yup’ik language experience within a multicultural setting. Students acquire the Yup’ik language in a natural way in everyday classroom situations while developing listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. In the immersion model, students learn content, i.e. science and social studies in Yup’ik.
