The Medical Science Academy at Bartlett aims to prepare students to enter college or the workforce with extensive knowledge of the various facets of the healthcare industry. The four year program uniquely prepares students for all areas of the health-related profession and has a strong emphasis on rigorous academics, including math and science. Students will learn about health professions, while engaged in a learning environment that fosters inquiry and promotes the development of human relations, skills, and abilities. Students will take specialized classes that emphasize important employability skills such as communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and modern technology. These skills will be reinforced in a clinical lab setting with healthcare professional guest speakers, field trips, student organizations (Health Occupations Students of America-HOSA) and community service. Opportunities to participate in individualized internships at the Veterans Hospital and other medical facilities for real-life experience are encouraged. Students will obtain current first aid/CPR certification and follow an extensive four-year college preparatory program designed to provide each student with the academics and skills needed for Pre-Medicine, Pre-Veterinary, Pre-Pharmacy or Pre-Dental major. Students also have the option of preparing themselves for a healthcare position directly after high school.
